IS AFGHANISTAN GOING TO BE BARACK’S IRAQ ??
It certainly sounds eerie to me and should ( but of course won’t ) have Obama GROUPIES ( apparently 90%+ of those at DailyKos ) running for cover. The way Obama is referencing Afghanistan.
You can close your eyes and think you are listening to Bush or Cheney speak about Iraq. What exactly does Barack think is going on in Afghanistan and even more to the point what does he intend to do there as President and how much is he prepared to spend in terms of American lives, Afghani suffering and dollars spent?
The West, Russia and others have been trying to tame and subjugate Afghanistan for hundreds of years. No one has succeeded yet. Obama has not told anyone his SECRET plan to do what no one else can and even worse WHY would a “progressive” Democrat want to lord Afghanistan.
As for Hamid Karzi the President of parts of Kabul and a joke everywhere else in Afghanistan, Bush’s and the CIA’s PUPPET rather than playing basketball with him ( maybe that was someone else ) during his fact finding trip Obama might have spent his time finding out Karzi is a LOSER good for nothing who deserves nothing but the back of his symbolic hand from the next President. One big favor he might do he Afghani people is get rid of Karzi. Get him a fat position at a U.S. university or Think Tank as we do for so many other losers and despots.
ON THE LARGER ISSUE Barack should tell us how many more U.S. troops he intends to put there as President. Obama has made it CLEAR he will send MORE troops. In fact believe it or not the troops in Iraq now occupying thst country.
Risk the lives of more American men and women to accomplish what goal. HERE IS WHAT IS TRULY SCARY our candidate may be exposing himself as CLUELESS about Afghanistan whether he has 300 or 3000 foreign policy advisors. Thst leaves him ready and able to be manipulated by the “military industrial complex” if we are still allowed to use that term.
What exactly is different about invading and occupying Iraq than invading and occupying Afghanistan. That Obama is a Democrat. That’s precious. Obama seems to be saying – whether or not he appreciates it – thst Bush & Cheney simply invaded the wrong country. The operative phrase here is “invade and occupy.” Way back when remember 1776 did we enjoy being “invaded and occupied.” Not really. So WHY should other nations and peoples. Because the U.S. knows what’s best for Afghanis. Where is my dictionary. Would some one please look up the definition for IMPERIALISM. You the Obama GROUPIE over there with the “knife” in your hand can you look up IMPERIALISM for me ?
Here is the point Barack and yes you Groupies. Our ONLY vested interest in a presence of any sort that is aggressive in Afghanistan is to prevent groups of Whackos from launching attacks against the U.S.A. and/or our people or assets using Afghanistan as a staging area. But wait a second. ISN’T THAT OUR POLICY WORLDWIDE. How come Obama doesn’t want to invade all 200 countries around the world just to be “safe.”
The fact is an INTELLIGENT U.S. government protects America by using logical methods to identify, track and disable such threats using sophisticated techniques NOT BY OVERRUNNING Afghani towns or setting up military base camps all over Afghanistan. Or getting involved in fire fights with tribal leaders who dominate Afghanistan.
Saving the Afghanis from themselves by occupying their impossible to occupy geographic quagmire of a land isn’t going to work it never has. So Barack if you have a SECRET plan please release it.
Do we really need Obama as President showing the very same tendencies as Bush and Cheney but in Afghanistan rather than Iraq. And is that your example of a PROGRESSIVE Democrat. How about at least covering your ass Barack by saying you will NOT make any decisions about Afghanistan until you are at least elected and have full access to ALL the information and individuals you need.
AND HOW ABOUT THIS. Stating that you intend to begin by inviting what you identify as the 100 most influential figures in Afghanistan to meet with you and your staff at some safe off-site location for three days of intense dialogue BEFORE making policy decisions about Afghanistan and what U.S. sanctions will be most productive. Either as soon as you are sworn in or even during the transition period after the Election.
INSTEAD GROUPIES we may be presented with a President Obama who gets suckered in to applying the very same “logic” (sic) to Afghanistan that Bush-Cheney did to Iraq and get sucked into putting more and more troops into Afghanistan to protect those previously put there by him and as more and more Afghanis see their country as OCCUPIED by Americans which leads to ever more insurgency and also drawing malcontents fro all over the region especially Pakistan and beyond. And the best he may be able to claim is that Bush-Cheney lied and cheated to invade Iraq but Obama was innocently “conned” into Afghanistan. And God help us if President Obama YES President Obama sends Congress a resolution asking for support to take whatever action necessary in Afghanistan. Hmmmmm????
